A few days ago, the Vietnam Iron and Steel Association data showed that Vietnam imported nearly 19.83 million tons of steel in 2015, including finished and semi-finished steel. The import volume increased by 27% year-on-year, and the import volume reached 9.046 billion US dollars. Vietnam imported 52% of its total steel imports from China.
According to reports, in 2015 Vietnam exported a total of 3.49 million tons of steel products and semi-finished products, a year-on-year decrease of nearly 4%, and exports of nearly 2.5 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 14%. Vietnam's steel export market is mainly ASEAN countries, with exports accounting for 75% of its total steel production.
According to reports, the Vietnam Iron and Steel Association believes that in 2016, the Vietnamese steel industry continued to encounter competition from cheap steel products from China, which not only suffered in the domestic market, but also Vietnamese steel companies in Cambodia, Laos and other markets also face the strength of China's low-priced steel products competition.
